December 2022

Who else seems to be on a never-ending merry-go-round of weeding, trimming edges, and mowing. I must admit I am making time to enjoy the wonderful flurry of plants re-establishing and flowering prolifically due to the extra rain.

Then suddenly there is a hot windy day, and the odd plant has succumbed to a sudden, sad death.

  • Keep Mulching, this will keep root zones cool and moist.

  • Watch out for Pests as the weather warms up.

  • Roses need to be dead headed regularly for the next flower flush.

  • Water tomatoes regularly to prevent blossom end rot.

  • Fertilise fruit trees and summer flowering plants now.

  • Wait to cut back and or move early flowering Spring Bulbs until their leaves die back. If you don’t like the mess, encourage children to plait leaves together.

Challenge: Grow some herbs in a pot, perfect for the entertaining period. Add them to meals or perfect garnish for the pre-dinner drink.

Christmas Wreath Workshop dates will be announced shortly.
